(Engineering) FUJIKAKE Hideo Graduate School of Engineering +81-22-795-7117 @ Group of Electrical Engineering, Communication Engineering, Electronic Engineering, and Information Engineering, Tohoku University Fujikake / Ishinabe Laboratory Researcher Database Research Subject(s) For creating future information infrastructure, we have been conducting research and development on next-generation human interfaces such as flexible displays, stretchable displays, and three-dimensional displays that utilize soft materials such as liquid crystal and polymer. Key Words Flexible Display / 3D Display / Human Interface / Soft Material / Liquid Crystal Website Group of Electrical Engineering, Communication Engineering, Electronic Engineering, and Information Engineering, Tohoku University Fujikake / Ishinabe Laboratory Research Activities The expansion of wireless communication networks is extremely important for establishing future information infrastructure, including disaster response. For expanding service coverage area so that communication can be performed anywhere and anytime, liquid crystal devices that can control directivity of radio waves in antennas and reflectors by applying voltage are attracting attention. When the liquid crystal layer phase-modulates high frequency wave, it is necessary to fabricate it thick. We are searching the liquid crystal material and device technology with fast response time and low loss. In aging society and symbiotic society in future, mobile information terminals will require large and easy-to-recognizing electronic displays with lightweight. Such human-friendly  information terminals are effective because they enable smooth information transmission even in emergency disaster events. Therefore, we are developing flexible and stretchable displays that are convenient to carry even for large screen. A three-dimensional display that is in harmony with human vision and sensibility is expected to be an excellent human interface not only in everyday social life but also in events of emergency disaster. Therefore, we are promoting technology creation and application development on ultra-high resolution liquid crystal devices for electronic holography, in order to realize an ideal three-dimensional display that is natural and does not cause visual fatigue.
