Geriatrics and Gerontology   Professor Hiroyuki ARAI Associate Professor Shoji OKINAGA The Department of Geriatrics and Gerontology’s was established to find ways to manage and prevent: 1) cognitive decline and dementia, 2) swallowing and aspiration pneumonia and 3) falls and fractures. Geriatric medicine is an independent internal medicine division that specializes in the management of medical problems of the elderly, especially dementia, which constitutes a central part in the practice of geriatric medicine in order to support independence in the lives of the elderly.
