We are looking forward to seeing you FY2023 RIEC Annual Meeting. Program Outline 10:00~10:30 Opening Session 10:30~12:00 Session2 / Cooperative Research Projects 13:30~14:30 Session3 / Inter-Organizational Research Projects 14:40~15:10 RIEC Award Ceremony 15:30~17:30 [On-site]Poster Session Speakers HANYU Takahiro KIM Sungyoung HIRAMOTO Kaoru TSUKAHARA Naoki SHIOIRI Satoshi AOKI Toru Opening Session time10:00~10:30 RIEC and its Cooperative Research Projects HANYU TakahiroDirector / Professor Tohoku University, RIEC Session2 / Cooperative Research Projects time10:30~11:00 Auditory training and its influence on auditory selective attention KIM SungyoungAssociate Professor Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology / Rochester Institute of Technology We investigated a relationship between auditory training for audio engineers and its influence on auditory selective attention performance. One of main tasks for audio engineers is to segregate multiple auditory streams, apply optimal signal processing for each stream and integrate those process streams into a coherent sonic object with the best quality. Therefore, auditory engineering training essentially involves the complex cognitive process of auditory selective attention. In this study, we conducted a controlled study that compared listeners’ auditory selective attention based on their amount of audio engineering training. The result shows that the group trained with the closed-loop and audio-motor training paradigm significantly improved performance of identifying speech, but not the control group who received a general training. The results implicate that a gamified audio engineering training can serve as a supportive tool to improve adult’s auditory selective attention performance. time11:00〜11:30 Visualization of cellular functions via electrochemiluminescence Visualization of cellularfunctions via electrochemi-luminescence HIRAMOTO KaoruAssistant Professor Tohoku University, Frontier Research Institute for Interdisciplinary Sciences Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) is luminescence triggered by electrochemical reactions at the surface of the electrode. We have developed ECL systems that visualize oxygen consumption and secretion of biological cells. In the session, evaluation of model cell membrane with the ECL system will also be discussed. time11:30~12:00 Development of methods to control crow behavior TSUKAHARA NaokiCEO CrowLab Inc. CrowLab, Inc. has been reducing damage caused by crows at various sites with its technology to control crow behavior using crow vocalizations. In this presentation, we would like to introduce these technologies and the latest crow research being conducted in collaboration with the Research Institute of Electrical Communication. Session3 / Inter-Organizational Research Projects time13:30~14:00 Estimation of mental states during learning SHIOIRI SatoshiProfessor Tohoku University, RIEC Through the cooperation with National Taiwan University by RIEC Cooperation Project Research, we have been working on estimating mental states of learners to improve education system as one of several collaboration with researchers between NTU and Tohoku U. Knowing engagement levels while studying is important to improve teaching methods. We investigated whether facial expressions can be used to estimate mental states of learners during learning, conducting experiments to measure behavioral indexes related to learning processes. Our attempts with machine learning methods succeeded to predict learning related behaviors from facial expressions. This indicates that there is close relationship between facial expressions and mental states. time14:00~14:30 TlBr X-ray imager with photon-charge count type readout AOKI ToruProfessor Shizuoka University, Research Institute of Electronics A photon-charge X-ray counting imager has been developed by using advantage of the good absorption of high-energy X-rays. The complementary relationship with other compound semiconductor radiation detectors will be discussed along with the energy properties of TlBr.
